General Dentistry Whitby Ontario

At G.T. Dental Centre, we proudly provide quality general dentistry care to the Whitby, ON community and surrounding areas. We are committed to providing the best patient care and service around. Our dental team is here to help every step of the way and create a unique patient experience.

What is a general dentist?

A general dentist is a primary dental care provider. The priority of a general dentist is the prevention of disease. The majority of dental procedures are either diagnosing issues or preventing them. When you receive general dentistry in Whitby, Dr. Thoms will diagnose and treat overall oral health care needs.  He manages gum care, root canals, fillings, crowns, veneers, bridges, and preventive education.

By emphasizing oral health and hygiene, general dentists help people avoid oral disease progression and tooth decay. If issues are left untreated, they can eventually result in pain, lost time at work or school, and loss of money, as many procedures are pretty expensive. Read here to learn more.

Some general dentists also provide other elective services or specialize in certain areas in dentistry. Meaning that if you want a whiter, brighter smile, Dr. Thoms, your general dentist, can help you achieve those specific goals too.

Basically, at G.T. Dental, you receive all of the general dentistry services you need at our dental practice, plus additional dental care.

What is the difference between a dentist and a general dentistry?

The only difference between a dentist and a general dentist is the title used on their dental school’s degrees; education and training are precisely the same. All dentists receive an undergraduate degree before dental school.

After the initial four years for a Bachelor’s degree, they continue onto another four years of dental school at an accredited institution. Some general dentists choose to receive special training in particular areas—for example, implant placement, cosmetic procedures, or other therapies. Click here for more information.

Read this great review from Taylor Cook:

Growing up I absolutely hate and I mean hate the dentist. Ever since I’ve been a patient of Dr. Garth Thomas I can say I no longer hate the dentist. First off the office staff, hygienists and Dr. Garth himself are extremely welcoming. Definitely make you feel like you are in a safe environment. They all instantly greet you as you walk in. Whether you have a cleaning or more surgical procedure, they make sure that you are comfortable, listen to all of your questions and answer as thoroughly as possible, they do not ignore your inquiries. I especially love how each and every hygienist greets you and listens to everything you have to say. Our concerns are their first priority and you can definitely tell when something comes up that might affect you because they are right in making sure you get the care you need instantly during your appointment.

They are extremely organized and follow all protocols necessary to keep you safe. Unless I absolutely have to, I will not switch from this dentist office to another.
